Watched the new tv series "Sons of Anarchy" tonight and the intro song to the show is none other than Black Keys. Awesome. Its not the theme song but was cool score to the first scene you see.
The show was pretty cool. It seems a bit of a stretch but so was the Sopranos. Ill prob keep watching just for the Black Keys plug in.

Jessica Lea Mayfield

I like to think little nuggets like this one Heather Browne scrounged up in her Monday music roundup the reason why I am always surfing music blogs.
A few Diddys by JLM brought to you by NPR
Heather's site is linked on the sidebar. "Fuel...Friends" >>>>>
Here's an excerpt from her write up on Jessica.
Scott Avett of The Avett Brothers says that 18-year old Ohio native Jessica Lea Mayfield is "the most exciting new artist in the scene today," her debut album With Blasphemy, So Heartfelt was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys (she sang backup on Attack & Release), and the album also features vocals from two members of Dr. Dog.
Just having the Avett Brothers talk highly of you, The Black Keys put their money at stake for you and members of the up and coming Dr Dog back you up will get me a tad interested being that all three of these bands I listen to daily.
Thanks Heather.

Bob Dylan Harpoon Deal with Hohner

I play an awful harmonica yet I would like to have a Bob D Hohner Special.
These are only being sold in limited fashion in the range from 5,000 clams to 25000 bones. Wowzers!
The Hohner company and Bob Dylan are proud to announce the Bob Dylan Collection of hand-signed harmonicas, celebrating the accomplishments and legacy of both Bob Dylan and Hohner. Hohner has manufactured and distributed musical instruments since 1857, making it one of the world’s oldest musical instrument makers. Bob Dylan – venerated American singer-songwriter, author, poet and disc jockey – has been a major figure in popular music for five decades. During his career, Bob Dylan has won awards for his songwriting, performing, and recording, earning him eleven Grammys (including a Lifetime Achievement Award), Kennedy Center Honors and an Academy Award. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2008, Bob Dylan was awarded a Pulitzer Prize Special Citation for his "profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power."

Sea Wolf - Leaves in the River

Listen to Sea Wolf's new album or never step foot into the ocean again.
And his keyboardist is quite the looker. Lisa Fredenhooper or whatever...I may have to put up a "Who is the hottest chick on stage 2008 poll or contest". Not sure what or who would win what, yeah. Maybe I'll just creep out and turn into the www.wwtdd.com of chicks on stage.
Willy Mason Jar - Newport Music Fest - Live

Getting to Know You...Black Keys Interview
I think knowing the people better behind the music you listen to only aids in the musical connection of life, liberty and the pursuit of awe shit I don't know where I'm going with this.........
Do you like your coffee Black.......Keys to play with ZZ Top
Being that I will be attending the Black Keys / My Morning Jacket Red Rocks your face concert Thursday I will be solely commenting on TBK today and MMJ tomorrow. Now that we have that out of the way...
It has been reported that your favorite bearded musicians ZZ top are to collaborate with the Keys on a new track. it has also been reported that the deal may fall through unless Patrick Carney can grow a suitable beard.
ZZ Top to Play With Black Keys
ZZ Top motto, and I shit you not, is "Taking Texas to the World".

Music Apps for Your Iphone

The one application I have used has been Pandora. It may also be the app to make me upgrade to the 3G. Pandora will stream on the 3G network as if you were on your home wifi. Now when using Pandora on the Edge network with my First Gen iPhone it is very choppy. And by choppy I mean it sucks.
Pandora in general is a very nice app. It syncs with your account you have online. Im still waiting for my Rhapsody iPhone application. Will it ever happen? I think an open letter to Real Networks is in order.
Here is a list the Paste put together.
Update: Not 5 minutes from writing about Pandora I find that it could all come crashing down.
Pandora and Rhapsody should team up together. I use both for a similar reason. I want to listen to music now not later. Pandora's Genome Project allows someone to find so much new music similar to their tastes. Or heres a brilliant idea, Pandora. Make people pay for it. I would. This post has greatly diverted from its original birth. Oh well.

Langhorne Slim, Legendary River Drifters and Da Young Coyotes

Okay, so my checklist for last night was this.
1. Check out this new local Denver band, The Young Coyotes
2. Finally see what this Langhorne Slim is all about and ask if that is his real name.
3. Don't get drunk and fall in love with some tattooed hipster chick singer.
1. Missed the Coyotes. Did meet one of them but he could be my accountant for all I care. I did however talk to some folks who said they were really great. They play the Meadowlark In Denver on the 28th. See you there?
2.Langhorne was walking around in the crowd just hanging out before he went up and started throwing down some messages to all his past girls who tried to step on his heart. Definitely some pent up anger in his songs. Id like to see him play on a friday when the crowd was more into it. Hump day shows, everyone has to work in the morning. Bleh.
3. Dammit. Yup the chick singer for the LRDs had some crazy stage presence with a unique look. And some well placed tattoos. Thats really all I ask for. Maybe a decent conversation here and there. Either way the Legendary river Drifters were great. She had an amazing voice and the rest of the band, which was large, was jamming away.
I was thinking Neko Case from Seattle in 1991?

REK at the Boulder Theater

Folks, REK rocked the house last night. It has been a little while since I have seen a Keen show and it brought back a slew of memories. One being driving southbound on 35 from Dallas to Lukenbach Texas for Robert Earl Keen's Texas uprising. If I remember correctly this was 1999 and was my senior year of High School. Ah the good ole days. I miss road trips.
I didn't get the Tom Ames I wanted but I did get the Dreadful Selfish(China cat melody) that I so needed. I even got to shake his hand and get an autograph. Dont ask what we talked about, I was drunker than a pack of Indians on payday. Thanks Bobby.

Dear Robert Earl Keen,

Please play Tom Ames prayer Tuesday night the 5th of August at the Boulder Theater.
Steve Earle played it there about a month ago so to keep the music universe and oil prices up you really have to play it. Don't let me down.

George W Bush
PS. Heres some REK for ya'll.

So After only passing over the NPR music page quickly yesterday I went back and discovered a whole slew of music from the Newport Folk Festival...Enjoy!
Monday Music Madness Brought to You By NPR
Ive picked up on Willy Mason as of late. Having grown up in North Texas I enjoy many a few Texas Twangers. My best explanation to people of Willy is he is a Robert Earl Keen/ Jerry Jeff Walker type making music with the Conor Oberst type. Makes for some great music.
Heres some Willy Mason
Think Ill have to make a concerted effort to be at the Newport Folk Fest next year.

Jim "The Falsetto" James - Newport Folk Festival

NPR has been doing wonderful things with their Music Homepage. The content is updated on a weekly basis with all different genres of new music interviews, studio sessions, live recordings like the one below.
Jim and Band will be playing at Red Rocks August 21st with opening act The Black Keys. Its been awhile since I've looked forward to a show as much as this. I caught MMJ the last time they were at Red Rocks opening for Bob D. Some would say that they stole the show. For me to say that about a guy who most of these bands like MMJ grab inspiration is absurd but holy shit it was a good time. Bob played his new stuff well, seemed to get lost in the older music and never came out from behind the keyboard. A year later MMJ is headlining. What Dylan cover do we get this go around?
